Silence Detection

Silence Detection configuration is available on the main dialog of Smart Sound Recorder.

Silence Detection feature of Smart Sound Recorder allows you to define recording behavior in the case when volume of recorded audio signal falls below the predefined threshold called Silence Level.

You can set Silence Level value in the range from 0 to 32768. Optimal value strongly depends on the hardware you use and the quality of recorded audio signal, we recommend to use Silence Level value about 500-1000 that we found to be good for most tasks.

Silence Duration is a minimal length of time period during which recorded audio signal have to stay below Silence Level to conclude that this signal is silence. In more simple words, if Silence Duration is 3 seconds then after 3 seconds of recorded silence Smart Sound Recorder will perform an action specified by selected When silent block option.

There are 3 options available:

Note: When silence detection is On recording starts only after sound is detected. This can be used for Voice Activation, when you dictate audio notes. You need only to select When silent block option Skip to record all notes to a single file or select When silent block option Split to save every note to different file and start recording.
